Anthony Derrick “Jap” Hooks #95
Anthony Derrick “Jap” Hooks, grew up and still resides in Alexandria, Virginia. Married for 14 years to his wife, JoAnn, he has one stepson, John. During his teen years, the entire Hooks family, including Jap’s mother, Delores Ann Hooks; his grandmother, Elneal Hooks, and especially his grandfather, Ed Hooks, were staunch Titan fans who rarely missed a game. Also, his mother and grandparents often hosted several members of the team at the Hooks’ home.
Jap attended Charles Houston and Mount Vernon Elementary Schools, Parker-Gray Middle School, and George Washington High School prior to his years at T.C. Williams. Upon graduation from T.C. Williams, in 1973, he attended Chowan Junior College in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. He graduated from Chowan with an Associate in Arts degree in Printing Management and Technology. Next, he transferred to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. At Arkansas State University he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Printing Management and Technology.
Knowing what he wanted to do after high school graduation, Jap planned his junior high and high school classes and summer jobs around his interest in printing. He had already been exposed to many printing techniques and had gained knowledge of much of the equipment by the time he got to college. True to form, he is still employed in the printing field, working as a printing specialist for the U.S. Government Printing Office. His love of printing, as well as his skill in it, has led him through a 22-year federal career. Today, he uses his expertise to broker printing contracts. As a printing middleman, he writes specifications for and handles contract negotiations between the government and various private printing vendors.
In his spare time, Jap enjoys viewing sports of all kinds, participating in aquatic exercises and activities, and traveling with his wife. Jap leads his life according to one of his favorite quotes from the basketball great, Michael Jordan:
You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.
