Brad Bubba Smith #82

Brad “BUBBA” Michael Smith was born in Washington, D.C. but grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. After attending Minnie Howard Middle School, Brad went on to T.C. Williams High School in 1969.

While attending T.C. Williams, Brad distinguished himself as the FIRST FRESHMAN to play ALL four years of his high school career on the Titans’ Varsity football team. His career ACTUALLY began as a freshman on the JV squad. He was later advanced to the Varsity squad after his 2nd game and started as a Nose Guard in the 3rd game of the 1969 T.C Williams’ football season. Brad started in each game wearing number #82 and NEVER missed a game during his high school years.

In Brad’s sophomore year he played as a Tight End with the Titans and caught 24 passes for eight touchdowns. BUBBA (as he was known best) best season was as a junior, when T.C. Williams, undefeated, won the Virginia AAA State Championship in 1971. During that year he caught 34 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns. As a senior he caught 24 receptions for 604 yards and 7 scores.

Among the many awards he received while attending TC Williams, Brad was selected to play in the All Metro, All District, All Regional, All State, and All American football teams. He also played football on the Virginia East and West All Star Team in 1973. Upon graduation in 1973, Brad was selected to attend Michigan State, but chose to attend Temple University instead.

Although he did not graduate from Temple, Brad chose to join the U.S. Army in 1975. During his career in the Army, Brad traveled around the world and played All Army football for the Fort Benning, Georgia Doughboys.

Brad (BUBBA) was selected as defensive player of the year in 1982. Brad played on the All Army football team for 4 straight years. He was also a weight lifter for the All Army Team as well.

In 1984 he married his lovely wife, Debra and they now reside in Clinton, Maryland with his children.

Brad BUBBA Smith is Captain for the Campus Police Department at Gallaudet University here in Washington, D.C.
