Fred Alderson #75
Fred Alderson Jr. was born into a military family in March 1955. Being an “Army Brat” Fred’s family moved around quite a bit and he attended grade school at West Point, New York; Norfolk Virginia; Paris, France; Montgomery, Alabama; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and finally in 1966, Alexandria, Virginia.
While in middle school at Minnie Howard, Fred’s two PE teachers (George Rawlings and Ron Jones – who were later to become his coaches) convinced him to try out for the sports teams at his future high school, TC Williams. As an 8th grader, Fred started on the TC Freshman Football team and lettered in both JV Wrestling and JV Crew.
Fred continued to be an active athlete at TC, winning varsity letters in football, wrestling and crew. Fred’s true love was rowing and he was a member of the 1971 US National Junior team, competing in the Four with coxswain event at the World Youth Championships in Milan Italy. In his senior year, Fred was a member of TC’s National Champion Varsity Eight and competed at the Royal Henley Regatta in England.
After graduating from TC Williams in 1973, Fred attended the US Military Academy, West Point, New York and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery in 1977. During his 21-year career Fred had a wide variety of assignments including many in Army and DOD special units.
In 1999 Fred retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and went to London to pursue his business studies as a Sloan Fellow at the London Business School. Upon receiving his Masters of Science in Management, Fred returned to the US and accepted a management position with the Intel Corporation.
Fred has two great kids, Kelly and Jeb, both of whom are active in their high school marching band. Fred and his very patient and lovely wife Maggie now live in Scottsdale, Arizona.
